OCI Card or PIO Card?

Should I Apply for an OCI Card or a PIO Card:
PIO: Person of Indian Origin. OCI: Overseas Citizenship of India.

You are a PIO if you have migrated from India to another country and acquired citizenship of that country. Then you are eligible for a PIO card.

You are an OCI if you obtain oversees citizenship and you are holding an OCI card.

Comparison: A PIO Card is valid for 15 years. An OCI card is valid for your whole life. Neither an OCI or a PIO card can help with Qualifying for a government job or voting in India.

With both cards, you can study in India under an NRI status. Both cards ask for the same photo size and requirements.

Benefits of OCI cards:

OCIs have a lifetime visa into India for visiting for and unlimited time.

OCIs do not need to register with the police when they are staying for an extended time in India.

An OCI is an Indian Citizen, whereas the PIO card holders do not get this privilege.

PIO card holders can obtain Indian Citizenship after they have lived in India for 7 years, but OCI card holders can obtain Indian Citizenship after 5 years.

The Validity of an OCI card is a lot longer that that of a PIO card.
